5 Accessible Resources To Make Mental Health A Priority
I heard someone describe this pandemic like being in a storm at sea. The obvious wave analogies aside, the more I began to think about it, the more similarities I found. Some people are all alone in their boats, while others’ boats are filled to capacity. The size of everyone’s boat is different, and thus the impact of the storm varies.
Everything about this pandemic has been different for everyone, and similarly, the impact on mental health has varied by individual. For some it’s how they choose to react and deal with stressors in work and home life, in order to be productive and contribute to their communities. For others it’s a chemical imbalance in the brain which requires a lifetime of therapies and medication to be able to function day to day and keep balanced.
Whichever boat you’re in, making your mental health a priority is WORTH it.
Throughout this pandemic, our industry has been in an especially high category storm, so it’s no wonder many of us are finding it difficult to ride the waves and are struggling to stay afloat. The good news is that calmer seas are ahead, and there are some incredible resources available to help us stay afloat – OK – I’ll stop with the nautical analogies now. Seriously though, the below are all worthwhile channels to browse, learn more about or take full advantage of.

Addiction/Substance Abuse
“Probably one of the most loaded topics we tackle within MTB is the issue surrounding substance abuse and addiction. According to the medical community, drinking 9 or more units of alcohol per week classifies you as an alcoholic. Most of us will chuckle at that number, because we all know that we have had 9 drinks in one post-shift session, nevermind a week. So here we come to look at the true definition of addiction and the difference between an unhealthy over-consumption socially and being a slave to a substance, mentally and physically.”
This is a hub launched by The BC Government for tourism & hospitality sector employees recognizing this pandemic has been devastating to us.
