Welcome to WORTH Academy

WORTH Association is pleased to present WORTH Academy for self-identifying women accelerating their leadership ambitions. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

What is WORTH Academy? A free 12-week leadership program for professionals working in recreation, tourism and hospitality. Join a cohort of 50 participants in select areas including Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. 

Why: Beginning April 15th, cohorts will gain access to self-paced online modules, as well as live group coaching and a full day leadership mindset workshop. Through interactive discussions, coaching, and real-world examples, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of leadership principles, develop essential skills, and cultivate a strong network in their region. 

Who: This program is designed to help women advance their careers in recreation, tourism and hospitality. It is open to all women interested in management, but may be especially relevant for individuals who hold positions such as: lead, supervisor, coordinator, assistant manager or manager. We strongly encourage those with the following identities to register: Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, People with Intersecting Identities, LGBTQIA+, people living with disabilities and others with experience in marginalized communities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • If you are a successful applicant, you will receive a unique log-in code for an online educational platform. Each week for 12 weeks, you will receive course content including videos, readings and small assignments. Discussion forums will be enabled for cohort participants to share. There will be three virtual group coaching sessions facilitated by certified coaches and a one-day, in-person leadership mindset workshop in week 3 of the program. Participants are required to complete weekly modules, and attendance at all virtual and in-person sessions are mandatory. Learners will work on a self-directed leadership action plan throughout the course. 

  • This program is free, thanks to financial support from the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

  • In order to gain a WORTH Academy certificate, participants must complete a personal action plan and all online modules. Participants are required to attend three group coaching calls and the full-day workshop.

  • Instructors for this program are BC based recreation, tourism and hospitality professionals. The curriculum was designed by an accredited adult learning professional with a Masters in Leadership. Senior leaders in the industry support learning through video testimonials and certified coaches facilitate the live sessions.

  • Any self-identifying woman working in recreation, tourism and hospitality can apply. Applications are region specific, so participants must work or live in Metro Vancouver or the Sunshine Coast for the April intake.

  • Not at this time. WORTH Academy is cohort based to support networking and professional development in specific regions. The one-day leadership mindset workshop is designed to be accessible to self-identifying women living in Metro Vancouver or the Sunshine Coast. We will be offering this program to Fraser Valley and the Sea to Sky Region in the Fall and exploring the possibility of other cities in Canada.

  • The time commitment will be approximately 1-2 hours a week for the self-paced work. Over the 12 weeks you will attend 3 virtual coaching calls and a full-day, in-person workshop.

  • The workshop will take place in week 3 of your program at a to be determined venue in Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. Details will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

  • Successful applicants will be notified by April 8th, 2024.

  • The program will run again in late 2024 and early 2025 so you are welcome to re-apply. Join as a WORTH Association member to be the first to learn about application dates.
