3 Simple Tips To Stay Healthy This Summer
It’s summer! This usually tends to be the season of BBQ’s, cocktails, beaches and travel. While we may be exploring locally and visiting within our bubbles this year, the food, cocktails and treats still remain.
I’ve heard many of you reference “Covid10” or “Covid 15”. You know, those extra pounds that seem to have come out of nowhere? Understandably, our world, lives and environment changed forcing us to stay in, move less, and eat more.
Here are 3 simple tips to stay healthy this summer:
Hydrate:
Hydration is the key to flushing out toxins from our body. From my experience, most people don’t drink enough water and when they do, they notice the difference. Depending on your activity levels, you will want to aim to get 3 liters of water a day.
If you’re enjoying the cocktails this summer, you also want to ensure that you are properly hydrating. So while you’re enjoying that summer sip, make sure you have water beside it to enjoy equally.
Food Focus:
In order to keep our blood sugar in check so that we’re not craving starchy or sugary foods, ensure your plate includes these three components:
Protein: Ideal sources include organic, pasture-raised or grass-fed meats, fish and seafood such as salmon and shrimp, or vegetarian options such as organic eggs and tofu or beans and lentils.
Fat: Ideal sources are olive and avocado oils, ghee, olives, avocado, nuts, and seeds.
Fibre: Essential to help with the removal of waste and it also keeps us full. Ideal sources should come from plenty of vegetables and some forms of fruits such as apples, oranges and berries.
Manage Stress:
We’re in a challenging time for our industries and naturally, stress is on the rise. This is an important time for us to amp up our self-care by resting more (if needed), getting in plenty of sunshine, and moving daily, even just for a sunny walk. It’s important to recognize where you are, mentally and physically, and to honor that. So if that means an online yoga class versus a 5K run, then do what works for you!
